This title sequence brings the charm of the book Once Upon a Tome to life through warm, vintage-inspired illustrations. The book follows Oliver Darkshire’s journey as he stumbles into the world of rare bookselling at one of London’s oldest bookstores - Sotherans. Filled with eccentric customers, mysterious finds, and humorous moments, it captures the magic and quirks of antique bookshops.
This project is an illustrated - animated title sequence created for a movie based upon that book. My process began with research on London's antique bookstores, their cozy atmospheres, and old English typography, . Using Procreate and Illustrator, I created detailed illustrations that depict key scenes, with silhouettes of characters appearing and disappearing, mimicking fleeting moments in a bookstore. I used AfterEffetcs to create the animation. The color palette is warm and dark, evoking the nostalgic and mysterious feel of the story. The goal is to immerse viewers in this whimsical journey, setting the tone for a film that celebrates the charm of rare books and the people who cherish them. The result is a visually rich and inviting sequence that reflects the book’s humor, warmth, and timeless appeal.
